“Kaaviya Thalaivan” is a 2014 Tamil language historical drama film directed by Vasanthabalan. The film stars Siddharth, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and Vedhicka in the lead roles, while Nassar, Thambi Ramaiah, and Anaika Soti appear in supporting roles.
The story is set in the early 20th century and follows the lives of two theatre actors, Kaliappa and Gomathi Nayagam Pillai, who are also close friends. The two actors are known for their rivalry on stage, but offstage, they share a strong bond. Their lives take a turn when they both fall in love with the same woman, Vadivambal, who is also an aspiring actress.
The movie portrays the struggles and challenges faced by the theatre artists of that era and how they fought against the societal norms to pursue their passion. The film received critical acclaim for its strong performances, direction, music, and cinematography. It was also nominated for several awards, including Best Film and Best Director at the 62nd National Film Awards.
