Intel Corporation launched 4th Generation Core processors in India

With high hopes that its new processor would serve as a foundation for the thrust of two in one computing, Intel launched 4th Generation Core processors (Codenamed Haswell) in India on 27th of June 2013. These will be based on Haswell micro architecture, the successors of Ivy Bridge. While, CPUs based on Haswell architecture were announced worldwide on June 4′ 2013.

Intel haswell launchIt was only one year and a half ago when Intel launched Ultra books in Indian markets with their latest 3rd Generation Core processors based in Ivy Bridge micro architecture.  These will be based on Haswell micro architecture, the successors of Ivy Bridge. It rarely happens that the latest technology has come to India within a month’s time. Even, the Ivy Bridge based CPU were launched 2-3 months after their launch in the US.

“This is the largest generation-over-generation gain in the company’s history, equating to nine hours of battery life in active workloads for some Ultrabooks based on the new processors,” Intel South Asia Managing Director (Sales and Marketing Group) Debjani Ghosh said here.

Advantages of 4th Generation Core processor:

Although the advantages of Haswell over it’s predecessors isn’t significant in terms of computing performance, but it’s definitely more power efficient and promises of delivering upto 50% increase in battery life. “Improvements have been made keeping in mind the user’s needs and requirements of a power efficient, high performance device,” said Debjani Ghosh (managing director sales and marketing group, Intel South Asia).

The company claimed that now production of slimmer and lighter laptops and tablets/devices would be made easier using these new processors. These laptops will certainly have more interactivity and responsiveness and much better graphics performance apart from the increased battery life. “Today’s announcement accelerates a new category of 2-in-1 computing devices delivering the best of a notebook and a tablet in amazing new form factors.”, said Leighton Phillips (product management and pricing director, Intel Asia Pacific).

The latest processor would serve as the foundation for computing in two-in-one devices, which work as a PC as well as a tablet, she added.
The 4th generation processor enables every day computing to be about two times faster. It helps systems wake up around eight times faster, and allows users to edit and share HD video about 20 times faster than a similar four-year-old computer.

Promising that the new processor will deliver up to a 50 percent increase in battery life, Leighton Phillips, product management and pricing director, Intel (Asia Pacific) said, “on 27th June, announcement accelerates a new category of 2-in-1 computing devices delivering the best of a notebook and a tablet in amazing new form factors.”

Intel along with its partner companies like Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo would start selling Ultra books (and may tablets too) powered by Haswell chips, in the Indian markets by the first week of July. As far as consumers who would like to assemble their own computers are concerned, for them Intel will sell Haswell processors in separate boxes. Other such top end chips already available in the market are Core i7 series (for about INR 20,000) and more used Core i5 series (for about INR 12,500).

The company claims that the battery life gain with the 4th generation processor offers thwarted most significant gain in battery life ever achieved -upto double the graphics and significant CPU performance – and has equated it to nine hours of battery life for active workloads for some ultrabooks.

“Improvements have been made keeping in mind the user’s needs and requirements of a power efficient, high performance device,” said Debjani Ghosh, managing director sales and marketing group, Intel South Asia. Ghosh said she was most excited about what the processor could do for the Indian markets.

“I think perceptual computing is what will drive technology in India and our processor enables that, making computing more intuitive. This is very important in a market like India, where there is a lack of literacy – a major barrier to the effective use of technology,” she said.
The company is optimistic that the 4th Gen processor will usher in a new wave of ultrabooks and 2-in-1 devices which will give the user the power to use it as both, a tablet and a PC.

Some of the capabilities that ultrabooks and devices embedded with 4th generation processors will be enabled with are the ability to manufacture more sleek designs, with increased responsiveness, more interactivity, improved voice command control, faster transfer capabilities and most of all extended battery life.

Ultrabooks and devices built with these new processors will begin selling in India as early as the first week of July, with some of the partner companies being Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo.

Acer’s Aspire 572, with the new processsor which will be available in retail store by mid-July, will sell at around Rs 37, 000 onwards. The pricing for products of other partners are not available at this time.

So, if you are about to buy a laptop or get an assembled PC and would like to save power and enjoy a little faster computing at everyday tasks. Then it is advisable to wait for another month, buy a Haswell powered device and enjoy the benefits.
