There are few substances in the world that are more interesting than dry ice and thermite. Both are dangerous in their own ways (dry ice burns, and thermite explodes), but what happens when you put them together?
That's exactly what the fine folks over at carsandwater decided to find out. They detonated a small amount of thermite on top of a block of ice. What happened next is amazing.
What you're seeing there is thermite burning at around 4,500 degrees Fahrenheit on top of the dry ice, which is about -109.3 degrees Fahrenheit.
I think it should go without saying here, but I'll say it anyway: Please don't try this at home, regardless of how cool it looks.
