With a number of mouth-watering clashes, the football weekend lived up to its reputation of great fun for the spectators. Few of the important clashes encompassed Manchester United being away at White Hart Lane, Arsenal away to Cardiff, Chelsea hosting the Saints who have surprised a lot of people with their early start and West Ham home to Fulham in a clash of the teams with their managers under pressure.
By the end of Sunday, the Premier league saw another weekend of twists and turns. Saturday saw Arsenal notch a hard-fought victory over Cardiff with Aaron Ramsey scoring a brace with Mesut Osil providing the assists and Szczesny putting a wonderful show in goal. Romelu Lukaku scored once again for Everton, as Everton spanked Stoke 4-0 and ascended to fourth position. West ham inflicted a 3-0 loss on Fulham which ultimately led to the sacking of under pressure Martin Jol, who is being replaced by Rene Meulensteen. Newcastle moved fifth in the Premier League with a fourth straight victory on Saturday, beating West Brom 2-1 at St James' Park.
Super Sunday didn’t disappoint with Manchester United and Spurs entertaining the spectators with a wonderful game of football, which ended in a 2-2 draw. The result though didn’t do any good to the either team with Manchester United and Spurs now 9 and 10 points off the league leaders Arsenal and have their work cut out for the remainder of the season.
Liverpool, without Daniel Sturridge who will be out of two months with an ankle injury, stuttered in their pursuit of Arsenal as they lost 1-3 to Hull City. Elsewhere Chelsea recovered from an early goal to beat Saints 3-1 and Manchester City beat Swansea 3-0 to close the gap on Arsenal at the top of the table.
With 25 games to go, the league looks the most competitive since its inception and still any of the 6 teams could win it. But with another round of games over, Arsenal with their gritty performance looks the favorites, with the other teams such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Spurs have very little room for further errors.
