How to Make a Small Garden Stunningly Special

They say that good things come in small packages, and if that truly is the case, then your small, compact garden is much better than a sprawling ten acres of nothing but lawn and fountains.

Even if you do not entirely subscribe to this way of thinking, the truth is that unless you are planning on moving house in the near future, your garden is your garden. Here is how to make even the smallest of gardens stunningly special.

Focus on Height

Obviously, there is not a great deal you can do about the actual square footage of your garden, so when wanting to make it appear larger and generally more interesting, you must instead focus on height.

Luckily, there are many relatively simple ways to add height and texture to even the most compact of gardens, including overflowing hanging baskets, either metal or wooden obelisks, and the erection of several trellises covered in climbing plants.

A Beautifully Paved Seating Area

Now, with a smaller garden, nobody will be expecting you to hold a wedding reception there, but you must still have a place to sit outside on a summer’s evening and contemplate the world.

What better way to section off a narrow space for your modest table and two garden chairs than to invest in quality paving stones with beautiful designs and finishes? There are numerous impressive benefits to dedicating a small amount of space to a stunning outdoor paving design, including the following:

  • A way to give the garden texture and depth
  • A way to increase the overall value of your property
  • Exceedingly low maintenance time and cost
  • Sturdy and durable even in extreme weather
  • To give the impression of different zones within the space

Repurpose a Drinks Trolley

Upcycling and repurposing older items you no longer use, giving them a new lease of life and bringing them into the garden is not only an affordable way to transform your small space but is also a sustainable and fashionable one.

A perfect example of this is to take an old drinks trolley that is currently crammed in the cupboard under the stairs, give it a sanding down and a new lick of paint, and then bring it into the garden to act as a moveable planter.

Failing that, you could instead choose to erect a sturdy planter to the outside of your windowsill, protect it from opportunistic birds, and try your hand at growing a vegetable or two.

Install a Mini Greenhouse on the Wall

Finally, even if you are not what anyone would naturally describe as green-fingered, another excellent way of adding interest and another focal point to the garden is to invest in a mini greenhouse. Or, if you are good at DIY, you might choose to build one.

Not only will this cute and functional mini greenhouse not take up any floor space whatsoever, but you can also use it as either a beautifully unique display case for your quirky ornaments or else use it as intended and grow some indoor-loving plants and flowers.
