The Ivory Coast is the largest producer and cocoa bean exporter in the world. Their beans are made to produce chocolate and in 2009 they supplied more than 25% of the cocoa produced in the world.
Farmer N’Da Alphonse grows cocao and has never seen the finished product. “To be honest I do not know what they make of my beans,” says farmer N’Da Alphonse. “I’ve heard they’re used as flavoring in cooking, but I’ve never seen it. I do not even know if it’s true.”
Many cocoa farmers have yet to taste the end result of their hard work and labor, as chocolate bars are too expensive for the average farmer to afford. However, that’s all about to change in this video, as these farmers taste chocolate for the very first time.
