Magnificent MS Dhoni did it again. Mahendra Singh Dhoni once again lived upto the 'Captain Cool' tag as he held his nerve to almost single handedly guide India to yet another title triumph with a narrow one-wicket win over Sri Lanka in a thrilling final of the the Tri-nation ODI series.
Needing 15 from the last over in their chase of 202, Dhoni smashed Shaminda Eranga for two sixes and a boundary in just four balls to finish off the game in style at the Queen's Park Oval.
I thought I could target the bowler in that last over because he's not as experienced as some of the others.
– MS Dhoni, India Criket Captain.
Dhoni, returning from an injured hamstring, shared a last-wicket stand of 20 with Ishant Sharma as India reached its winning target at 203-9 with two balls to spare.
Dhoni marshalled his forces superbly while effecting three stumpings and playing his part in strangling the opposition when they would have been expected to be flourishing and racing towards a formidable total.
"I thought 15 runs was something I can look for, the reason being the opposition bowler was not someone who was very experienced like (Lasith) Malinga or some of the other bowlers. I thought rather than taking chances against a Malinga or a (Angelo) Mathews, I would take it to the end and take a chance against someone who is not so experienced. It worked and I'm happy it worked."
Dhoni changed his bat for the final flourish.
"It was a very heavy bat that was needed at that point of time. The weight of the bat was perfect for slogging," he said.
