As one of the top players in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo has earned himself a reputation for scoring goals, but he also epitomizes the reality of the ‘lifestyles of the rich and famous’ when he’s not on the pitch. As the top goal scorer of the European Championships, he has certainly proved himself invaluable to the beautiful game and this is reflected in his estimated net worth of nearly £400 million.

Earning around £900,000 a week, Ronaldo can certainly afford the finer things in life, so it’s no surprise that he spends his time between his two exquisite properties: a villa in Madeira and a mansion in Italy. His huge Italian pad has everything you could want in a dream home: outdoor and indoor swimming pools, a playroom that any child would love, a spacious nursery with furniture and fittings that befit the children of a multi-millionaire.

His Madeira property is also sumptuously appointed and benefits from spectacular views of the Atlantic which can be seen particularly well from their rooftop pool. He shares all his properties with his girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, and their four children, who also have rooms tailored to meet their needs including a home gym and comfortable family rooms that are perfect for the family to spend time together when Ronaldo isn’t playing.

A diverse portfolio

As one of the highest-paid footballers in the world, Ronaldo hasn’t spent all his millions on lush houses. He has also indulged another hobby of his that can also be a lucrative investment and has a collection of cars that would make any motoring fan jealous.

His main car is a Lamborghini Aventador, which would have cost more than £200,000 and he is also regularly seen driving a Maserati that would have had a similar price tag. He is also said to have a more extensive collection comprising three Ferraris, Audis, a Mercedes, McLaren, Bentley, and a Porsche.

He really hit the headlines in 2019 when he managed to secure an exclusive model of Rolls Royce, their first SUV in fact, costing upwards of £250,000. Just when it seemed he has reached the zenith of motoring acquisition, he then went on to purchase a Bugatti La Voiture Noire, famously for being the most expensive car in the world.

With only ten made, the Voiture Noire cost nearly £14 million, dwarfing the mere £7 million he spent on the Centodieci. The value of his collection is uncertain – not only is he constantly adding to it, but the fact of being owned by Ronaldo also affects the potential resale price.

Other income streams

Ronaldo continues to impress on the pitch, and while even today football prediction may not be fool proof, he is hotly tipped to continue his current winning streak during the FIFA World Cup 2022. But, even without his footballing wages, Ronaldo has other sources of income, not least his Instagram feed that earns him more than £30milion per year.

As one of the most social media savvy football stars, Ronaldo has earned additional income from promoting various brands online. He also has sponsorship deals with several global brands, including Nike and Tag Heuer, which generate a substantial income to top up his wages. His deal with Nike is reported to be worth more than £700 million over his lifetime.

Other high-value stars

Of course, Ronaldo isn’t the only super-rich footballing star to make headlines with his lavish lifestyle. Lionel Messi has also earned an incredible sum from playing football in recent years and is currently estimated to have a net worth of around £500 million, made up of his £100 million plus annual salary and additional money from endorsements and sponsorship.

Messi also has expensive taste in houses and cars, but he has hit the headlines with the money he spends on his philanthropic ventures. Not only has he established the Leo Messi Foundation, he has also made significant donations to a number of youth football programmes and other charities as well as being a UNICEF ambassador.

Luis Suarez is also on the high earner’s leader board, netting more than half a million pounds a week and with a net worth of around £60 million. He is known for his beautiful mansion just outside Barcelona, which happens to make him one of Lionel Messi’s closest neighbours and the two are often seen together.

Antoine Griezmann is another top earner, thought to be worth around £42 million, and his lifestyle also involves a beautiful house in Madrid where he parks his car collection. Thought to be worth nearly £1 million, his garage is home to a classic 1970 Corvette, a McClaren 675LT and a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta.

Griezmann is also a huge basketball fan and has expressed a desire to visit every NBA arena in the USA, although he will have to squeeze them in among his footballing commitments for now. He plans to finish his career in the US soccer leagues, which may make it easier to follow his second sport more closely.

Football will always attract stars that become known for their off-pitch activity alongside their playing and increasing activity on social media has made it even easier to learn more about some of the best-known players. Whether that makes it easier to predict how they will perform in any given match is yet to be seen, but many fans enjoy the chance to see how their favourite players prepare for a match.
