This is not just any other nude photo series. Anton Belovodchenko’s black and white “bodyscapes” is more fine art than nude.
There is power in grace. Strength in tenderness.
Russian photographer Anton Belovodchenko creates natural forms from nude female figures. Artfully shot, the suggestive photos look like sculptures of dancers or yogis, contorted in way that sometimes masks the human form.
A bodyscape, traditionally, is an artistic style where closeup photographs of the human form convey the impression of landscape. Belovodchenko, who comes from Novosibirsk, makes his own maps from the shapes of the female form. Although Belovodchenko is also passionate about photographing airplanes, this series remind us of Alexander Yakovlev.
Human flexibility is stretched to its limit in these bodyscape photographs by Anton Belovodchenko. The featured women show surprisingly flexibility, contorting their bodies in various ways. Black and white photography strips away color, leaving only gray skin and dark shadows, accentuating every bone, muscle and wrinkle. It’s a sculpture in flesh.

When it comes to aesthetics there’s something innately beautiful about the female body in particular. Not to undermine the rough hairy landscape of the male body—perhaps it just doesn’t translate as well behind the camera.

Anton Belovodchenko uses black and white photography and strategic poses to illustrate the power and grace of the human form. By illuminating the naked flesh Belovodchenko highlights each unique muscle movement and contortion. There is power in grace. Strength in tenderness. Sometimes a new lens can reinvigorate the beauty of a familiar form.
